Food cravings can be extremely difficult to eliminate, unless you learn some of the simple secrets that hypnotherapist have been using for years.
Hank and a constant craving for red velvet cake. Because Wesley Anderson, Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy, knew that many people create cravings with unconscious mental imagery, he was able to help Hank eliminate the cravings in a matter of a few minutes. All Hank had to do was use his imagination to move his picture of red velvet cake over the horizon and lock it in place so that he could not get it back unless he consciously chose to do so. By eliminating the red velvet cake cravings Hank learned how to consciously control food cravings. And, that was the most important lesson he learned from his experience.
When food cravings and over eating are associated with emotional triggers, hypnosis is used in a different way. Emotional conflicts may be dealt with by negotiating between the two conflicting impulses. This is most easily done by creating images and symbols for the two different desires. An image is created for each part of the personality, and a new set of choices is negotiated that satisfies the positive intentions of each side. For many people it’s difficult to imagine a positive intention that thickens their thighs and expands their waistline. However a positive intention may be carried out through a behavior even though there are negative consequences. For example, one of my clients only felt special when she was given sweets when she was a child. And up until her hypnotherapy, she still behaved on the basis of those childish emotions and beliefs.
That clients task was to unconsciously create many more ways of feeling special that are legal, moral, and nonfattening. The reason for having the unconscious mind create the new choices is simple. Our conscious mind tends to be much more limited in creating new choices. For example, I’ve had a client tell me that she will take a walk instead of eating a piece of cake. That choice is fine, however, she’s not always going to have the opportunity to take a walk in those times and places where she might have the impulse to eat a slice of devil’s food cake. Her unconscious mind could create emotional states that are soothing, or more appropriate for her situation. And the unconsciously created options will happen on autopilot, rather than requiring willpower.
So hypnosis can offer some techniques that are much more effective for craving control, simply because hypnosis is an effective way of communicating compelling ideas to the unconscious mind.
