Instant gratification has sabotaged many diets. There is a simple weight loss hypnosis technique that will allow you to take control over the desire to be instantly gratified. One of the best things about this technique is that it involves a lot of pleasure.
The first step is to notice the impulse to grab that cookie, or chocolate kiss. The next step is to take a breath. Taking that breath interrupts the autopilot “eat that” response just long enough for you to exercise a little conscious control. The third step is to go do something that you enjoy for 10 or 15 minutes. Develop your list of pleasurable options before the next impulse for immediate gratification comes up. Then decide if you still want something to eat. Most people will opt for continuing to enjoy their pleasant activity.
Hypnosis can be used to make those three steps a new habit right away. The first step would be to chain the feelings, thoughts, and images that trigger the instant gratification behaviors to trigger automatically taking that conscious breath. Then, through hypnotic suggestion, the list of pleasurable activities will pop into mind. That gives you the option to consciously choose one of them.
Of course, the choice to eat is always still there. It is because hypnosis has been used to automatically bring the list of other pleasurable options to mind that you turn off autopilot eating. And then you have a real choice.
If you are using this technique with self hypnosis, there are a couple of things you can do to ensure your success. The first is mental rehearsal. Imagine being in a situation in which that impulse to immediate gratification comes up as if you’re really there. Feel the sensations, see what you see in that situation and hear and he sounds that might be there. As soon as the impulse begins to come up bring to mind your list of pleasurable options, choose one, and vividly imagine enjoying it for 10 or 15 minutes. Rehearse this as many times as necessary to make the impulse for gratification to automatically turn into one of your new choices for pleasure. This might be three rehearsals or twenty. The more vividly you experience the pleasures in your imagination, the more powerful the new habit will be.
