Hypnosis can help people overcome or eliminate fear of eating new foods. On the Express website there is a news story about a young woman who ate only french fries the last 15 years. And, due to several sessions with a hypnotherapist, she is now eating a large variety of foods and enjoying them.
Food preferences are greatly influenced by how we think about particular foods. For example, some of my clients have had obsessive thoughts about chocolate. When I asked one of them if she had a mental image of chocolate she said yes. And, her mental image of chocolate was larger than life. When I asked her to make that image of chocolate life-size, the thought of chocolate was no longer compelling to her. It was just another pleasant food. Her obsession was gone.
Sometimes it can be that simple to make food cravings disappear. And, sometimes it is necessary to make sure that the person’s unconscious mind satisfies other benefits beyond simple pleasure in taste for the person to be finished with their cravings. For example, it is common for people to associate a particular food, like chocolate, with celebrations, or feeling love. And hypnotherapy can help the person find illegal, immoral, and nonfattening ways of accomplishing those benefits. Then their cravings will be gone for good.
